Flowers Inset #3241

Scene from the 30’s #3100The Bourne Bridge, crossing the Cape Cod Canal, was opened for traffic on June 22, 1935.The car is a 1937 Oldsmobile Touring Sedan. It is the Deluxe model of that year, straight 8 cylinder. It has a gas rationing sticker on the rear window, 3 gallons a week starting in 1941. The original AM radio works quite well. It was a relatively new contraption in 1937, took up a large volume under the dashboard with 8 tubes; about 25% of the shop manual was devoted to its alignment and maintenance and cost about 8% of the price of the car, which was $917.I took this photo in 2006. The sepia color tone, grain, scratches, stains and even the “mat” were created in Photoshop. The photo was taken at the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Bourne as the car was leaving an antique car show.

Orton Effect #0412The Orton Effect was invented by a photographer named Michael Orton. It creates an effect where the image appears highly detailed and focused, but also soft and dreamy at the same time. Orton accomplished this by combining two or more exposures of slide film, one of which was in focus and the other(s) out of focus. This technique can be replicated in Photoshop, which is what I did here.
